Demonstration on display in ARRIS booth #967; Rev2 will also present an operations cost-savings model for MSOs at ACT Forum

BOSTON, MAY 17, 2012 – Rev2, a rapidly growing Business Risk Analytics™ provider focused on delivering solutions that improve business performance, today announced that it will collaborate with ARRIS Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: ARRS) to showcase its RiskView® integration with ARRIS’s market-leading, MSO operations solutions at the NCTA (National Cable & Telecommunications Association) Cable Show 2012. The show will be held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center from May 21 through 23.

The integration will be on display in ARRIS Booth #967. The demonstration will feature live RiskView Outage Risk Analytics™ in concert with ARRIS ServAssure Advanced™ performance management solution and ARRIS WorkAssure™ workforce management solution. The combined solutions proactively optimize MSO network operations, reduce cost and complexity and ensure a premium customer experience.

Market Leadership

A rapid growth in subscribers, services, and traffic is challenging MSOs to profitably and responsively manage their increasingly complex DOCSIS networks. ARRIS ServAssure Advanced (SAA) is a best-in-class solution for collecting, correlating, and intelligently analyzing cable network telemetry and performance data to improve operator accuracy and efficiency in managing the service delivery infrastructure.

With ARRIS WorkAssure, operators efficiently streamline field service operations through workflow improvements that increase productivity, reduce errors and rework, and improve reliability and quality. Leveraging SAA data, WorkAssure enables operators to markedly improve customer service and event resolution with real-time interconnection of subscriber health checks, field service, dispatching, inventory, and support staff.

By integrating with the ARRIS solutions, RiskView enables an unprecedented level of operator analytics while providing additional metrics such as Call Center Logs, Truck Rolls, Maintenance Work Orders, etc. As an example, ServAssure makes detailed hourly measurements of the number of CPE in trouble on every upstream and downstream port and then feeds these values into RiskView for problem correlation, risk scoring, and prioritization. Likewise, WorkAssure feeds RiskView with detailed records of all Service Truck Rolls, from origination of work through final disposition, including disconnects and referrals to HFC Maintenance.

“We are excited to demonstrate the integration with the Rev2 RiskView solution which has proven its bottom-line value at many leading MSOs,” said Bryant Isaacs, President, Media & Communications Systems at ARRIS. “With the scope of advanced analytics that RiskView provides, cable operators can gain greater insight into their service delivery infrastructures, providing valuable Spend versus Risk analyses.”

“ARRIS ServAssure and WorkAssure are complementary platforms to RiskView because they help MSOs further improve their operational efficiency and their customers’ experience,” said Robert Cruickshank, CEO and CTO of Rev2. “By correlating a wide array of service delivery infrastructure data sources, RiskView can help ServAssure-based businesses isolate problems even faster, helping them to identify risks that can degrade the customer experience and undermine performance.”

ACT Forum Presentation

Additionally, Rev2 has been invited to present at The Cable Show’s Academic and Cable Telecommunications Forum (ACT Forum) 2012. CEO Robert Cruickshank will present a case study entitled “Improving the Customer Experience by Improving Repair and Service Operations.” The poster presentation will highlight how analytics of voluminous amounts of existing risk data can help MSOs overcome the challenge of systematically correlating all meaningful HFC plant operations data.

The case study includes an MSO Cost-Savings Model that applies the risk analytics results to the operation of an MSO. The case study investigates the impact on operating costs as well as on the customer experience. Operating metrics include Reduced Truck Rolls, Reduced Call Volume, Reduced Bounced Tickets & No Trouble Found, and Leveraging the Reputational Cost to Increase Customer Goodwill. The official poster presentation hours are 5-6pm on Sunday May 20. The poster will be available during show hours on Sunday and Monday.

SunGard Availability Services Consulting Introduces New Practice and Focus on Operational Resilience [SunGard Press Release]

Thursday, May 10th, 2012

From SunGard | Newswire Link

WAYNE, PA, MAY 10, 2012 — SunGard Availability Services today announced the refocusing of its consulting organization to improve the resilience of its clients’ operations. SunGard Consulting helps organizations build the most effective strategy for managing operational risk while ensuring availability through innovative business continuity strategies, enabling technologies such as cloud computing, and improving efficiencies through high-performing IT operating models.

The SunGard Consulting practice leverages a combination of proprietary and industry best practices and tools to better assess, prioritize and manage controls for operational risks. The practice utilizes SunGard’s new proprietary Risk, Resilience and Recovery (R3) framework methodology and quantifiably measures risk by leveraging software tools such as the RiskView® Business Risk Analytics™ solution from Rev2.

SunGard has also established a partnership with The Carnegie Mellon Software Engineering Institute to use their Resilience Management Model CERT-RMM, a management model for operational resilience. “We are pleased to welcome SunGard Availability Services as an SEI Partner, with a staff trained, and a practice built, around leveraging the RMM model,” said Lisa Masciantonio, manager of the SEI Partner Network. “Our Partners are a valuable extension of the SEI, helping to meet the demand for SEI courses and services worldwide with a level of quality that matches the SEI’s own.”

“SunGard Consulting brings unmatched experience in the three pillars of operational resilience – business continuity/disaster recovery, security and IT operations,” said Warren Zafrin, SunGard Availability Services, Service Lines and Solutions managing partner. “We can help customers measure their ability to control operational resilience, and determine how their organizations will perform under times of stress, disruption and changing risk environments. This can enable them to improve their compliance posture and lower operational risks.”

The SunGard R3 Framework takes a holistic approach to operational risk management. It starts at the enterprise level to understand current maturity of the risk management posture, processes and tools of a client organization. The framework provides an organization with useful risk data and analytics to better measure and align operational risk programs across the enterprise and promotes integration with the business’ broader operational framework.

“SunGard is leveraging the best of both worlds: proprietary experience from their own high caliber availability experts, certification by industry leading resiliency models, and tools for operational risk,” explained Jason Buffington, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG).

SunGard’s R3 Framework leverages existing risk data and industry-based operational risk management data, allowing practice consultants to reduce the time required for discovery phases. In a client engagement, SunGard uses a tailored, highly repeatable framework of risk management processes that address the dynamics of the organization and its operational and strategic challenges.

Combining the theory framework of CERT-RMM with the R3 implementation model aligns risk appetite to business objectives and provides a transparent structure for driving operational resilience. This approach gives the business the tools, training and guidance it needs to maintain operations before, during and after an event that impacts the business.

SunGard uses Rev2’s patent-pending RiskView Business Risk Analytics solution to help reduce the client’s organizational risk profile. RiskView provides the ability to identify, compare and quantify vulnerabilities across an entire enterprise before they impact business performance. RiskView identifies the materiality of risks according to their potential impact on business performance, helping clients to prioritize and schedule business process improvement, problem resolution and overall spending. “We are thrilled that RiskView has been selected as a cornerstone of the R3 Framework initiative,” said Rev2 CEO Robert Cruickshank. “SunGard Consulting has developed an industry-leading operational resilience practice and we’re looking forward to this opportunity to work closely with the team.”

Rev2 CTO Robert Cruickshank Published in Broadband Journal

Monday, March 26th, 2012

“Prioritizing Undetected Service Outages,” by Robert F. Cruickshank III [pdf]

HERTFORDSHIRE, U.K., MARCH 26, 2012 – Rev2, a rapidly growing Business Risk Analytics™ provider focused on delivering solutions that improve business performance, today announced the publication of a technical article by its Chief Technology Officer, Robert F. Cruickshank III, in the February issue of Broadband, the Journal of the SCTE.

Entitled “Prioritizing Undetected Service Outages,” Cruickshank’s article describes an Outage Risk Analytics methodology for carefully classifying, scoring and combining maintenance activities, telephone calls from troubled subscribers, truck rolls and network telemetry, which can result in timely identification of otherwise undetected outages.

“While broadband service providers have alerting mechanisms and are equipped to deal with right now, hard down critical outages, oftentimes smaller and intermittent outages are much harder to detect and can be altogether missed for extended periods of time,” writes Cruickshank. “But customers notice these intermittent outages – especially business customers – and some of these intermittent outages are the precursors of much larger outages.”

“The good news is there are clues that can clearly point operations teams to concentrations of outage risk,” he surmises.

SCTE/Rev2 Primer Helps MSOs Improve Dispatch Efficiency [Link to CED article]

The SCTE has just produced a video in its SCTE Primer Series that explains how cable companies can quickly save time and money in their field service operations.

The Primer, presented by Rev2 CTO Robert Cruickshank III, describes a methodology that helps MSOs identify the source of network problems so that they can be rectified immediately, rather than responding to multiple, isolated trouble calls that are only symptoms of the problem.

New SCTE Video Primer Illustrates Time-and-Cost Savings Methodology for MSO Dispatch Operations

Monday, November 14th, 2011

CABLE-TEC EXPO® ’11, ATLANTA, NOVEMBER 14, 2011 – Rev2, a rapidly growing risk management provider focused on delivering solutions that improve business performance, today announced that the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has published a new video in its SCTE Primer Series. Developed in partnership with Rev2, the Primer answers the question posed by its title: “What is … Risk Concentration Analysis for Dispatch Operations?”

The Primer is available for download and viewing for SCTE members from the SCTE website at http://www.scte.org/resources/Primers.aspx

The Primer is presented by Robert F. Cruickshank III, Rev2’s Chief Technology Officer. It describes an emerging methodology that helps Cable MSOs identify small and intermittent outages that are typically hard to detect but can rapidly snowball into events that require costly responses from Dispatch Operations. It is based in part on the SCTE white paper entitled Drill Here, which Cruickshank co-authored with Matt Bell, Managing Director of Teambell Consulting.

“The Risk Concentration Analysis methodology carefully classifies, scores and combines common MSO dispatch metrics such as maintenance activities, telephone calls from troubled subscribers, truck rolls to troubled subscribers, and network telemetry data,” explains Cruickshank. “By correlating the data, the methodology can tell us where there are concentrations of risk throughout the MSO’s service delivery infrastructure.”
After completing this Primer, the objectives are that the viewer will have learned to understand the basic premise of Risk Concentration Analysis, and how it works in real-world settings; to recognize the role of Risk Concentration Analysis in dispatch operations where it has been successfully deployed in leading MSOs; and to recognize the value to the MSO business by increasing the efficiency of dispatch operations.

SCTE White Paper Provides Cable MSOs with Guidance for Finding and Prioritizing Undetected Service Outages

Tuesday, October 11th, 2011

VALHALLA, N.Y., October 11, 2011 – Rev2, a rapidly growing risk management provider focused on delivering solutions that improve business performance, today announced that the Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers (SCTE) has published a white paper that describes a solution to a major business/technology gap in service engineering operations at Multiple System Operators (Cable MSOs).

Titled “Drill Here: Systemic Prioritization of Undetected Service Outages to Improve Overall Business Performance,” the white paper describes an emerging methodology that helps Cable MSOs identify small and intermittent outages that are typically hard to detect but can rapidly snowball into costly, widespread events. The white paper was prepared for the SCTE by Robert F. Cruickshank III, Chief Technology Officer of Rev2, and Matt Bell, Managing Director of Teambell Consulting.

The white paper is available for download from the SCTE website at http://www.scte.org/. Click “Resources,” then “White Papers.”

“While Cable MSOs have alerting mechanisms and are equipped to deal with right-now, hard-down critical outages, oftentimes smaller and intermittent outages are much harder to detect and can be altogether missed for extended periods of time,” write Cruickshank and Bell. “But Customers notice these intermittent outages – especially business customers – and some of these intermittent outages are the precursors of much larger outages. The good news is there are clues that can clearly point operations teams to concentrations of outage risk. The bad news is these clues are too often imprisoned in disparate databases.”

The white paper describes a methodology for carefully classifying, scoring and combining maintenance activities, telephone calls from troubled subscribers, truck rolls and network telemetry – resulting in timely identification of otherwise undetected outages. By implementing the methodology, Cable MSOs can prioritize where to “drill,” based on the financial and reputational materiality of the outage.

“A key mission of the SCTE is to help cable operators reduce cost of operations while improving network reliability and bringing new technologies to market in scale,” said Daniel Howard, Senior Vice President, Engineering and CTO of the SCTE. “Cruickshank and Bell’s methodology helps in all three of these areas, and will be of value to cable operators looking to achieve five nines of service availability, especially for business customers. And it will help cable operators continue to raise the bar on network performance expectations and maximize their investment in both existing and new service delivery technologies.”

The SCTE is a non-profit professional association that provides technical leadership for the telecommunications industry and serves its members through professional development, standards, certification and information. SCTE currently has nearly 14,000 members from the U.S. and 70 countries worldwide and offers a variety of programs and services for the industry’s educational benefit.
